Fotógrafos que trabalhavam pela Farm Security Administration - Secção Histórica (mais tarde transferido para o Office of War Information) foram incentivados a documentar a continuidade e a mudança em muitos aspectos da vida, na América durante os anos em que estava em operação. Eles foram particularmente encorajados a fotografia de painéis e sinais como um indicador dessa evolução. Embora não tenha sido encontrada documentação, para indicar que fotógrafos foram incentivados a fotografia explicitamente a discriminação racial e sinais, a coleção inclui um número significativo deste tipo de imagem, o que raramente é encontrada em outras fotografias e gravuras na Divisão Coleções.
Esta ajuda inclui todas as referências conhecidas imagens de discriminação e sinais encontrados na Farm Security Administration uma divisão do Gabinete de Guerra de Informação fotográfica. Esta lista foi elaborada em resposta à freqüentes pedidos de tais imagens. A lista é atualizada à medida que as imagens adicionais são descobertos.
